When we bought our zoo tickets, we purchased the 2-park pass so we could also go to the Safari Park. We decided to go on Easter. It was a 40-minute drive northeast from our campsite in San Diego, & the drive through the canyon to get there was beautiful!
We chose to do the wildlife safari in the open-air truck. Our guide was so knowledgeable & fun. He mentioned many things that we went home & researched afterward (such as using surrogates to try to replenish the white rhino population and farmers using bees to deter elephants). It was also great because, aside from one other couple, we had the tour to ourselves! The park is huge, & it’s wonderful to see the animals together with so much space!

After that, Chase decided he was going to be our guide for the day. He did a great job! The park is gigantic!

Chase led us to the Australia exhibits. The image on the left was taken in the platypus house. We were so shocked to see that they are only about 12″ long! All of us expected them to be gigantic – not sure where we got that idea! The kangaroos were lazing in the sun.

Aside from the animals, the grounds are absolutely beautiful as well!

We spent the rest of the day just wandering around & seeing as many animals as possible!

When we stumbled upon this bird, we had to stop and watch. Its legs!!!! Then, another one came up after bathing in the pool…

We took the free tram ride around the park in the afternoon.

After the tram ride, we walked over to the lions. What a treat to see one so close! (The lion isn’t growling in the pics – it was yawning, like the cat it is.)

Our last stop was the gorilla exhibit.

On the way home, TJ found an authentic Mexican restaurant on Yelp with a 5-star review! We had to try it, and it was delicious! We got an assortment of tacos & some enchiladas. On the menu were also intestines, lips, eyeballs, and a whole sheep’s head! The owner & chef was so kind, explaining everything to us. Also, this is what our home looks like when we’re on the go every day…
