25. Zion National Park

We left Vegas excited for this next part of our adventure. We couldn’t help but notice this custom rig on our way out. Seeing all of the creativity & ingenuity at each spot is such a fun part of this!

Moving days are becoming more routine – the kids are finding ways to help & be responsible. I pack a bag of food for the drive. TJ gets us there safely. And, I’ve started spending my co-pilot time researching the next spot. These national parks are huge, and we don’t want to waste any time or miss anything!

The drive from Vegas to Utah was just over 2 hours. We drove thru a tip of Arizona & along the Virgin River. We were all excited for a change in terrain.

We crossed the state line into Utah! It took us 7 weeks to leave CA, and now we’ve hit 3 more states: Nevada, Arizona, & Utah! We’ll be in Utah for a while as we explore the national parks there.

Our park is WillowWind RV Park in Hurricane, UT. It’s a 35 minute drive to Zion, but it was the closest thing we could find. When we pulled in, we were so excited to see our new home for the next 4 days! The park has green grass, mature trees, and nice, wide roads. The best part – the park manager, Doug, met us at check-in, escorted us to our spot, and helped us back in! He was the kindest old man, in wranglers, cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, and plaid western shirt. He’s a retired rancher from Oklahoma, & he & his wife worked as park rangers in Zion & the Grand Canyon for 14 years. Again, I love hearing all of these different life stories.

This is now our 8th campground, & we’re realizing that each campground definitely has a vibe – & it’s apparent almost immediately. The kids pick up on it, too. There have been campgrounds where they have no interest in going outside, let alone explore. At other campgrounds, they head out & feel comfortable exploring. Today, we weren’t even unhooked before Sofina took off on her scooter for an hour! Chase got a better view from the tree. While I worked on pictures & blogging, Sofina connected with her friend online to play games & chat.

As soon as Chase saw the charcoal grill behind our spot, he wanted to try it. Neither TJ nor I have ever grilled on charcoal, so they did a little Googling, a little YouTube-ing, went to Tractor Supply for supplies, and set to it. Chase & I made the burgers, & he loved grilling them. They were delicious! Also, this rock area behind the spots is so nice! It really makes the spots feel more private!
