The next day we drove back into Arches to do some smaller hikes – after yesterday’s 6.5 miles of hiking, none of us felt very adventurous, & there were definitely some bad moods to work with. We started at The Windows area to see the North & South Windows & took the primitive trail back, which winds around the back of the windows. It was remarkably beautiful & serene. Chase pointed out the soil crusts we’d learned about the day before.

In the same area is Double Arch. This was one of the coolest experiences in Arches. We sat inside the huge, hollowed-out mountain, thinking about the millions of years it took to form all of this is on a scale that just doesn’t make sense, time- and size-wise.

We stopped quickly at the Garden of Eden, but the wind almost blew us away! These “fin” rock formations throughout the park were really cool, & each time we got to hike through them we were shocked at just hot giant they were.

Later, we drove back into Moab for dinner & to see a country duo play at The Backyard Theater. Before it started, we walked through an art gallery & did a scavenger hunt, trying to match artwork to different artists featured there. At the show we made the kids sit elsewhere, part as a joke & part as a punishment for the bad attitudes earlier.
